3919803 Intake (327/275 HP and 350/295 HP???)

Hi,

It shows in the Chevy Application Handbook that the 3919803 intake (cast iron with quadrajet) was used on the 67/68 327/275 HP and also says 67/68 350's...

The information that I've seen on the 67 L48 350 shows the 3905993 used on 67 camaros and I'm not sure what was used on 68 camaros.

I have a 3919803 intake date coded J 77 (June 7, 1967) that was on a L30 327/275HP motor with 3917291 heads (June 6 and June 7, 1967 heads)... This would be considered a "late" 67 application as it wasn't running the 3890462 heads.

Was the 3919803 Intake ever used on later 67 350 camaro's and/or 68 350's as the Chevy Application Handbook appears to suggest this showing it used on 67/68 327's and 350's???

Colvin's Chevrolet BTN shows that intake being used on 68 L30 and L48 Camaros, although your casting dates do seem to suggest that it may have been used on a very late 67. It would be interesting to know what the database has on this.

The correct 1967 327/275hp and 350/295hp intake is 3905393 and the 1968 intake for the same engines is 3919803. Most likely with the late build date on the intake it was meant for an early build 68 Car. If you look close at the 803 intake you will notice that the temp sensor hole is factory plugged or at least it should be. The temp sensor went into the head in 68.

my mistake on the date code....

Its a F 7 7,  so it is a June 7, 1967 and is from an origianl/unmolested L30 327/275 HP that I acquired this weekend that came out of a 67 Impala.

I am thinking that your records should show that 327's and 350's that were assembled after sometime in May of 1967 the manifolds could have switched to the 3919803.

This L30 is stamped VO608KL, June 8th 1967 and the 3892657 block date coded D 3 7, April 3, 1967.  The heads are 291's and the Intake is a 3919803 (both of which have date codes of F 7 7, June 7 (only one day before the motor assembly date.

So I'm still wondering if some 3919803's might have been put on late 67 L48's with the later 291 matching heads?

Just noticed....

if this helps, the intake is tapped/outfitted with the temperature sender and both heads have bosses for sensors, but aren't tapped.   I think this is correct for the early 803 intakes and early 291 heads used in late 67.

I'm just wondering if the CRG database shows any late 67 SS (L48) camaros with this head (and intake) combination?

If you install the "803" (or similar) intake, please note the post below from JohnZ regarding the "hot slot" issue with this manifold, especially if you are using a QJet carb.  A definite potential safety issue.  John's advice is very sound.

Can't help you with the mismatch issue, but if your intake has the "hot-slot" like the one in the photo below (that's an intake for a Holley, but the same "hot-slot" design was used on many cast-iron Q-Jet intakes), I recommend plugging the holes at each end of the slot with core plugs as shown in the photo. That slot is connected to the exhaust crossover passage, and allows hot exhaust gases to heat the carb base at cold start for improved atomization of the air-fuel mixture, with a stainless steel heat baffle to protect the carb base from direct impingement of the hot gases. Unfortunately, that heat also fries/distorts the carb base and can cause the bottom well plugs to fall out of the Q-Jet float bowl, resulting in engine fires. GM recalled millions of Q-Jet-equipped cars with this "hot-slot" design in 1969 due to the fire problem, and abandoned the "hot-slot" design in 1970.

I definitely look into plugging the smiley holes to eliminate any fire issues....

The intake has the matching/correct quadrajet 7027218 and coded F7 BC on the little plug on the side (Carter built I believe) and 158 7 on the trailing edge of the throttle plate.

I'm really trying to figure out if the 3919803's ever made it to a late 67 L48 350 motor as this one was on a late 327/275 motor???

We also plug all of the cast iron intakes here at Camaro Hi-Performance when we rebuild an engine.

Yes, there are some 67 L30's and L48's in the database that used that intake. All are June cars.
Yes, with 291 heads (one car has a 291 and a March 462).
