1969 Z28 Flywheel
« on: March 08, 2016, 05:16:32 PM »
Hi All,

I am in the process or refreshing my motor and I have a couple parts that don't look right. 1st the balancer is wrong (not 7708), it's 8" tall but 1 3/4" wide so it's rubbing the sway bar. 2nd is the flywheel, Part number casting is 3973455 N  then J53 is also cast and finally GM2. My car is a January 1969 car but I can't seem to find any details on the right flywheel.

Anyone familiar with what the 69 flywheel should be and if mine is not right what it could be?

The correct casting number for a '69 Z28 flywheel is 3791021.

Thank you.

Any Idea what I have? I came across a few threads stating that these are identical in every way and asking weather or not they could have been used on a Z from the factory. Is the 3791021 the only possible option?

I'm sure there are replacement flywheels available for the 302, but the 3791021 flywheel is the one they came with from the factory.

1st the balancer is wrong (not 7708), it's 8" tall but 1 3/4" wide so it's rubbing the sway bar.

If the balancer is rubbing the sway bar you most likely have 307/327 motor mounts on 302/350 frame brackets. That's a mis-match; the engine is incorrectly positioned too low in the chassis.
