I've been learning from this great resource for a long time (thanks everyone), but this is my first time posting.
My Father and I are working on decoding a 69 X55 car he recently purchased (pictures of it cleaned up are still up on this classified aggregator from a previous sale, when he found it this week it was covered in cobwebs, dust, and cat prints:
http://www.2040-cars.com/Chevrolet/Camaro/69-camaro-super-sport-350-4-speed-muncie-ss-x55-matching-numbers-survivor-229457/ ). We need your collective wisdom on the rear axle date.
First, the details (maybe it's already in the database, if not, let me know what else you need):
VIN - 124379N655195 NOR350464 TR - 712 PNT 57-57 06A X55
Engine Assy Stamp missing, must have been machined off (but the partial VIN is still present in the rough cast area by the oil filter)
Trans Assy Code - P9E06A , Muncie ID tag - 3950356, Partial VIN 191651595 (that's not my typo, picture and question coming in second thread)
Axle Assy Stamp - BS 0527 G2 E Axle Casting Date - E14 ? What do you think, is it an 8 or a 9?
Attaching photos, all rotated to show the numbers right side up. Tried to get a different angle with different light to show the last digit. Also attaching the test cast for comparison of the 8 and 9.
I've seen discussion about the unlikelihood of an axle sitting around for a few months, so I think a year later is out of the question. But the otherwise correct dating seems too much of a coincidence, unless someone really went out of their way to find a rear axle that was almost exactly right.
Thanks in advance for the thoughts. - Kurt H.
