Firewall Sealer
« on: February 03, 2009, 01:00:11 AM »
Guys,

In the AIM UPC 0 sheet D5 there is a listing for various places to put 9980664 Sealer on the firewall. What would be an acceptable replacement for this sealer listed in the AIM?

Thank you,

Lawrence

Eastwood has a brushable product that works well. I'm not sure of the catalog no. though.
Good Luck

Lord Fusor 800EZ, excellent stuff, very close to OE color, easy to brush out. Should be able to buy it locally too. Comes in a metal tube.
This is what to look for.

IIRC, the sealer was dispensed with a gun with a brush on the end of it. Meaning it was done with one pass.

The 9980664 sealer shown in the AIM was Chevrolet-applied, was black, and was used on all the firewall penetrations (grommets, hoses, etc.) as a water seal. The sealer in metal weld joints is different - it was brushable/paintable vinyl plastisol body seam sealer, and was applied by Fisher Body on the sealer deck after the prime oven.

Old thread, but found this in a search for "9980664 Sealer".   Per the AIM, (UPC 0, D5, page 21),  the 9980664 sealer is applied for many of the firewall openings.

It appears the recommended "the Lord Fusor 800EZ" is different than the sealer the JohnZ refers to that was applied by Chevrolet for the firewall areas.

So the questions:
1. What is a good OE equivalent sealer for "9980664"?
2. I assume it was applied by a sealant gun vs brushed on as brushing it on for a grommet opening doesn't really make sense, correct or?

Thanks!

Hans

the Lord Fusor 800EZ" Works well and looks very much like the Orem sealer in Color. Have used it on a bunch of restorations
