Tic Toc Tac AIM / CRG Redline Discrepancy
« on: December 28, 2015, 08:36:54 PM »
Guys I am confused about the correct Redline Tach for my 68 L30. Virtually every post here and the CRG Visual Chart says all small blocks (except 302) should have a 5000 RPM redline However, when I look at the AIM for the U17 option, it has the 6468713 part number tach (5500 Redline) identified as correct for all small blocks. The 5000 RPM Redline is identified as correct for the L34 and L35 big blocks.  Can anyone shed some light on this?

The chart is correct.

The LF7, L30 and L48 with RPO U17 came with a 5000 RPM redline tachometer, P/N 6468713. The L34 and L35 with RPO U17 came with the 5500 RPM redline tachometer, P/N 6468714. The Z28 and L78 (and L78/L89) with RPO U17 came with the 6000 RPM redline tachometer, P/N 6468715.

I'm not sure where you're getting your information from because the AIM doesn't list the redlines for the part numbers. Neither does the P&A. If you're going by aftermarket descriptions, forget it. They usually get it wrong.

Also, as for note 5 on the chart, "some" discrepancies have been noted, but it's not the norm.

Ed, thank you very much. I was using aftermarket part number cross reference for the rpm, and then compared to the AIM. While it is very faint, with a magnifying glass, I was just able to see the ink stamp of the 6468713 part number on my 5000 Redline tach.
