1967 camaro 283

i beleive i may have a 1967 camaro that originally came with a 283. iwanted to knowif they used any different codes than md or mj and how many 283 cars were produced

My records show the following:

MD - 283 2bbl 4 speed
MJ - 283 2bbl powerglide

MO - 283 4bbl 4 speed
MP - 283 4 bbl powerglide

Sorry, I don't have any production numbers.

MO and MP are the codes for a 302.  MP being with AIR (smog pump) and MO being without AIR.

NO first gen Camaros came with a 283 engine.

Sorry Gary. 193 export models came with the 283 engine rated at 195HP.

MJ engines were mated to a powerglide (total count 121) and MD engines were mated to either a 3 speed or 4 speed manual transmission (total count 72).

These cars were all built a the Norwood plant and shipped to Bloomfield, Michigan, where they were disassembled for export. The cars were then reassembled at their destination plant.

There was ONE ON EBAY that just ended.

Did the export cars have just the V emblem on the fender, like an Impala or Chevellle 283 badge, instead of the V with crossed flags like a 327? Very interesting.

Actually, the 283 cars were assembled in Switzerland. It was a CKD plant ala the Phillipines.

Thanks for the education. What, did GM have a bunch of old 283's laying around? Did export cars have a CID limit in different countries?

Taxes..... They can be pretty steep in some countries and are based on displacement.
