Brake line sizes in Calipers two different sizes?
« on: October 19, 2015, 03:56:41 PM »
I went to install my original calipers last night and the left side caliper line is larger. The line I got with the repro calipers fell inside of it. Is that correct factory? Before I sent them back to White Post, I center punched small marks on them, so I would know I received mine back. The marks are there, what's the deal?... The right side is smaller and fits the original caliper...Danny

Correct - LH and RH, different fittings/tubes on the originals. I think the reproductions have the same size lines as you know.

I guess I forgot about that. Better try to find my original lines and see if I can make them work. Why wouldn't the repro guys be smart enough to ALSO make the left line match? So can use your original lines?... Oh well, thanx... D

I learned Danny's car is a '68 which got me looking at my calipers from my 67 05B NOR convertible that is undergoing restoration. Those calipers were rebuilt in the mid-80's and I see the same size fitting used on each caliper. Both caliper halves are 5455530(fitting side) and 5455533. Upon looking at the AIM, J52/A1 I see the pipe P/N listed with a revision record associated with it dated 2/17/67 where the pipe was superseded with a different number. I believe John Z. or William stated those dates don't necessarily mean when the change was put into production. I'm wondering if that is the reason why mine use the same size fitting. Perhaps due to production mix ups it was easier to have different sizes? I'd check my 04B LOS survivor but it is completely wrapped in plastic at the moment while I paint the convertible. I also remember reading that there were two sizes used in '67 (reproduction not withstanding) but I can not find that article. Anyone else with an early to mid 67 with 4 piston brakes?
Just when I think I know everything about my own car, I learn something new here at CRG.
