69 Passenger Seat Restraint Cable
« on: August 03, 2015, 10:29:09 PM »
I'm looking for information on the passenger seat restraint cable which prevents the seat from contacting the dash when it is flipped forward.

My brother has an early 69 Z28 and it has the cable on the seat.  I have a late production (4th week September 69) SS L78 with the original interior and it does not have the cable.  There is a hole in the inside seat arm below the push pin that retains the plastic cover and this would be where the upper bolt for the cable attaches but it is not threaded.  There is no hole on the inside edge of the seat bottom where the lower bolt would go.  Was there a change from Chevrolet where this cable was discontinued and no longer installed during factory assembly?  If so when did this occur?  Thanks

I think they came on all cars, or at least all the cars I've owned..  :) Are 100% sure your seat covers are original?

Yes they were on passenger seats, all styles - standard and deluxe. There is a member here Steve, ( dekar@bellsouth.net screen name SDKAR on both CRG and TC) making a great reproduction. I bout a couple from him a year or so ago.

One question answered is that the cables were not discontinued, apparently. Why yours appear not to have them may be just an anomaly.  Now, some, when restoring a car, knowing it should be there, will add this strap. Then, others, like myself, would put it back as found (if, in fact, the seats have not been recovered and it left the factory that way)and just make a note for future owner history.

Hey guys, I still have these in black or grey.  If you want one, let me know.  Thanks, Steve
