Original GM rims
« on: July 01, 2015, 10:45:48 PM »
I'm trying to find out some original Chevrolet 14x6 Rim for my 69 Camaro. Ideally they would be all 5 matching dates, slightly before sept 68, the built date for my car. My car is equipped with drum brakes.

So from what I've read everywhere, I have two choice of wheel:

-14x6 XN coded wheel (Rally wheel for drum)

or

-14x6 FC coded wheel (regular steelies using hub cap)

For some reasons those 2 (FC and XN) seems to be very hard to find for my built dates. From my understanding, the FC wheels were more used on the 68 Camaro, since there was more disk brake options for the 69 cars. Most of the XN wheels I've found we're dated for later  1969.

Any idea or comment are welcome, is there another coded wheels I could use ? Is it really just FC or XN that could fit my drum brake equipped car, date wise ?

Yes, those are the codes you should have. And yes, 68 dates are hard to find.  Took me a while to get FCs for my Oct 68 Car. Keep looking! They have to be out there someplace! :)

Thanks for the answer, I'll keep searching and try to be patient. Does those rims we're fitting also on other GM products ? I means the same coded wheels ?

I think they were Camaro only codes.

I'm finally thinking about swapping the front drum brakes for disk brakes. Do I have to find 4 wheels with the same code for disk brakes ? Normally from the factory, a Camaro with front disks was equipped with 4 wheels with same code ?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would need 4 XF coded wheels if I wanna go 14x6 with hubcap ?

No, the car would have 5 wheels with the same code. Unless it had the space-saver spare.
