Marlboro Speedway was one of the important East Coast tracks back in the '50s and '60s. It was the "home track" for racers such as Bob Tullius, Dr. Dick Thompson, Tony Adamowicz, Johnny Moore, and many others. Mark Donohue learned to road race at Marlboro and won the Trans-Am race which ran there in 1967. The track itself, just about a half hour away from Washington DC (in Maryland), has been out of operation since the end of the '69 racing season. Once in a rather rural setting it has now been surrounded by more urban development. The property was just left as it was and never excavated. It fell into disrepair and was left to become overgrown with vegetation. Now, it appears that the property is up for lease, judging by a recent craigslist posting. It is highly doubtful the track could be allowed to resume racing activities as there would be too many hurdles to overcome with regard to noise abatement, traffic issues, etc.
