Exhaust 69 camaro

Two questions:

1- What's the best way to get a more aggressive sound out of my pipes? I currently have a SB 350. My buddy has a 67 with 427 and I get jealous... Don't have the money to upgrade to bigger engine so I need best bang for my buck.

2- what are some cost effective things I could do to my 350 to get a little more HP?

1- headers; dual exhaust, if you don't already have it... or different mufflers if you do
2- headers, more aggressive cam...

What type of headers, cam, and pipes you recommend? Best value.

My z had hooker headers on it and exhaust was gone. I am close to Jegs and for about 220 picked up a headers back kit with 2 mufflers. Sounded great and easy to install. All precut. You can search you tube and find where guys recorded exhaust

If you are comparing a high performance BB or SB (11:1, high lift & duration cam) to a typical stock motor of course yours won't sound or perform as good. You can easily over spend on headers and exhaust and it will just sound like a stock motor w/ headers and dual exhaust. louder may not be better.

Three items are the major contributors to making more power - compression, cylinder heads, and camshaft, matched to each other and your objective. All are expen$ive.

you can make a 350 nasty,  just have to open up the pocket book or swipe the visa.   

my 67 vette has a 327,  its 60 over, 13.5 compression,  afr heads, ( painted orage) gm real race cam, lunatti ultra light nas car crank,  headman headers into the side pipes..   M22 trans 4:56 gears,  its one nasty nasty little motor,   but it kinda sucks,  $8.00 a gallon fuel, and only one station sale its...

if you looking for that thumpetty thump thump. Thumpety thump thump. sound thats all in the cam..

I like Hooker Headers, Flowmaster mufflers, but you need some cam duration to make it thump. Once this is done without a little gear you have a good sounding dog concerning performance. My GTO with the RAM Air cam and 323 gears would not operate in 4th under 40 miles per hour. A set of 390,s and she lit up but it took bucks. Now it takes gas.

  If you just want a nice, mild engine that sounds good my advice is any 1-5/8" headers with turbo mufflers and 2-1/2" duals, a dual-plane manifold like an Edelbrock Performer and a 600 Holley carburetor, and a cam with around 270-280 degrees advertised duration will give it a little thump. Much over .480" lift with stock heads and you'll have valvespring bind problems. This will make a peppy engine that won't break your pocketbook to drive. It won't sound like a 427 simply because it doesn't have the cubic inches, but it'll be fun to drive. Hope this helps.

One thing I haven't seen on this thread that you might consider is an X-pipe. The sound is unique and they can be good for a couple to a few HP points. A set of headers, Magnaflows (my personal favorite) and nice mandrel bent pipes and you've got a great exhaust system. There's a tone that the X-Pipe cars make from mid range on up that is addictive.

There are cheaper versions but the workmanship on the Dr. Gas systems is the best I've seen. http://www.drgas.com/
