Lost 1969 DZ

I am turning to you all after an exhaustive search for information on a 1969 Camaro DZ that was stolen from me back in 1973,  I no longer have the title information, nor the key serial number, as it was all lost many years ago.  The police station in my town no longer has records, the Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle no longer has those records, nor does my insurance company.

The car was unique, it was I believe a J production model with disc brakes, rosewood package, and fathom green (I believe) with white stripes.   The other unique feature, was that it had a 1968 DZ 302 engine.  Which I took out of my 1968 DZ and put it in the 1969.

I do not know if you can help, was looking for any direction you might be able to point me to.

The car was registered and stolen in Lansdale, Pa.

1968 302s were stamped "MO" not "DZ".  Good luck with your search!

My friend without a VIN or known engine stamp, I am unsure how you would even be able to recognize the car now.
 I would say your looking for a needle in a haystack, but its more like a needle in haystack full of needles. There are so many cars without there original motors in them now, the guy that ended up with your car may have realized it was a JL8 car and re-stamped a block to look correct by now, or at least a correctly dated replacement. I would go back and look for some old registration, and then do a state to state VIN look up to locate where it might be registered. Good luck!

If it was stolen, then either the car was parted out and partially or totally, OR someone slapped a different VIN on the body to register it...  If it was registered in the VIN of the stolen car, surely even inept law enforcement would have discovered that way back when...?   To have any chance at all of finding either the engine or the body, he would need the original VINs of each.. and even then the possibility is very thin....

Agreed. BUT you do still see law enforcement discovering cars, from back then that were stolen. Still a long shot, but you need some kind of stamped numbers to start with.

DZMike I'm curious, have you been looking for this car the last 40 years? I agree with the guys if no VIN or lic. plate number you are not going far with the search. If it was that important to you then why not keep the information in a safe place?

Mike, good luck in your search but chances of finding it are very very close to zero without the VIN.

I would go down the county seat  register of deeds and see if they have anything from when the car was sold to you. If you had it financed they should have a record of the lean against the car and tax information from when you listed it... They should have some record of the sale based on the loans posted against the buyer of the car. A place to start..

I had some old insurance info on my car that I kept with tax records and was able to get the vin from my 68 SS I had in H.S.

You "believe it  to be Fathom Green?  68 Z's are MO blocks. (mine is anyway) Man that's a long time ago, I'm sure many moons ago it was parted out, gutted and doing 1/4 mile time.

Maybe the tax collector if PA has property tax? That's how I got my VIN. Had to look through old boxes in the basement of city hall, but I found it.
