« on: September 19, 2014, 03:24:19 PM »
This engine is in a 1959 Corvette. What do you all think of the stamp ?

Thanks
Billy

I'm surprised, but the stamp looks OK.

Stamp looks legitimate enough, but the reasons for grinding the VIN off are a little disturbing. Whoever ends up with it might at least try to raise them - Five Finger Discount ? Midnight Auto Supply ? Could be anything, including someones half hearted attempt at cloning one. At least somebody wanted the engine to be known as an MO -

First you need to check the casting day and the blocks casting number to see if its a 67 or 68. If its 67 dated, would it have a  exchange stamp on it or be blank as this one?

With my crappy 56 year-old eyes I can't see broach marks, and is it possible that I detect a faint partial VIN to the left of the code? I would check the block casting number against the assembly date and verify they are close together (with the casting number a week to no more than a month before the assembly date).
