power team orders/axel ratio's

What was the dealer order procedure for specifying the axel ratio for a given power team combination? Lets say you went to the dealer and ordered a 68 camaro L78/M22 combo and wanted a 4.56 gear. The information I have read would indicate the standard ratios available as 3.55, 3.31, or 3.73's.  How would the dealer accomodate this request? Was it as simple as putting a check mark in a box or did it require special attention written or otherwise. I just dont know much about the actual dealer order process and how much latitude they had with power team combo's.

You could specify anything on the power teams chart. I do not have the info with me but 4.56 & 4.88 were RPO ratios with certain engine/trans combos for 1968.

Things changed a bit for 1969; 4.56 & 4.88 were no longer RPO. However you could get either via the COPO process. I have copies of docs for a '69 Z/28 built with '88s and a COPO 9561 built with '56s.

That means a triple COPO is a possibility: 9511, 9561, 9737.

Thanks William, I was told by Dave Libby last year that it would have been a "complex RPO order" but others said it was not RPO and would have been COPO. I guess the COPO information was mixed up with the 69 power team chart. Here is the dealer order form I have with the car. Is this the form the dealer used to order the car or would it have been transfered to a form containing an RPO checklist? I think what I'm looking at is what the salesman and customer came up with. What system/paperwork did a dealer use to process a special customer order? Were the orders placed through the zone office or directly to the factory?

That's the dealer's internal form that constituted a purchase agreement. Here's a sample dealer order form that they filled out and sent to the Zone Office for processing - the Zone edited the order for errors to ensure everything was compatible (a buildable order) and forwarded it to Central Office in Detroit where it was edited again for any production restrictions and was then forwarded to the plant for scheduling.
