How to adjust 69 RS head light doors?
« on: September 02, 2006, 11:33:01 PM »
The headlight doors on my 69 are in need of adjustment from rubbing on the lower outer housing.  Can anyone tell me how to make these adjustments?

Thanks,

Kris

Assuming that the entire hide away headlight housing itself is sitting correctly (all bushings in place, etc), the painted part of the outer door can be adjusted, slightly, by loosening the two screws shown in the pics.  Allows some freedom to align the door with the fender and valance cutouts - and prevent rubbing.

If it is rubbing "hard", check to be sure that all of the bushings are in place on the main shaft of the door assembly.  They are simply plastic items and can wear through and fall out.  When I went through my headlignts a year ago, the bottom bushings on both sides were completely gone.  Mine weren't rubbing, but were, at times hard to open or close.

Kris,

Just saw this post. I have the same problem with my '69. The mechanism is sagging significantly and it's very hard to open and close the doors. Someone pointed out to me the headlight mechanism support brace. See 1969 Factory Assembly Instruction Manual UPC Z22 A2, Item 3. If this brace is missing or bent, the entire mechanism will sag.

When you solve the problem, I'd be interested in what you did.

Also, it looks like we have the same color scheme, Dover White with Hugger Orange stripes?

Best,

John
