'68 wheel rear wheel opening molding correctness.

I had asked a question a couple of weeks ago about how to correctly position a '68 rear wheel opening molding on a reproduction fender with no molding screw holes drilled in it for reference. I got the answer I needed but now am wondering about a couple of other things. I was told the front edge of the molding should stop like this for a non Rally Sport.



And the rear edge should go all the way to the bottome of the opening like this.



My first question is this. The picture below is a '67. Look at the bottom of the forward edge of the molding and how far it goes down and how it conforms the the shape of the body. This is different from my '68 GM molding.  So is this a " '67 only " molding and wrong for a '68?






This is a picture of the rear bottom edge of my GM passenger side molding held up near my rear wheel opening. My quarter panel is a reproduction. The shape of the bottom of the molding does not match the shape of quarter panel here. In fact, when you put the molding on and line it up with the bottom of the opening, there is no metal behind the screw hole in the molding.

Is the quarter panel not shaped right here?

The 67 RS photo is missing the spear. The wheelwell molding and quarter flange both look wrong. Find survivor reference and not ones with junk moldings and incorrectly replaced quarters. GM to repro quarter comparison here: http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=212160&page=4

 They had two different wheel well moldings for 1968.Non RS 68 moldings shared the same ones as the 1967 Camaro.68 RS Camaros had the molding stop at the rocker crease.

Can anyone actually confirm this?
I have looked through all the original parts listings on gmpartswiki.com, and the longer 4229493 & 4229494 rear moldings are listed as applicable only to the 67 Camaro.  The shorter 7795063 & 7795064 moldings are shown as applicable to all 68 Camaros.  I have original pictures of my 68 non-RS car that show the shorter moldings.

When I bought my car in 1978, I went to the Chevy dealership and ordered a bunch of new trim, including four new wheel opening moldings. My car is not an RS. I always save and packrat receipts. These are the part numbers from my order. These moldings are the ones I still have and they are the short ones........For whatever that is worth.

I always thought that they were different.I bought mine from Heartbeat City and he lists 1967-68 mouldings and 68 Rs mouldings separately.The front mouldings had to be trimmed as per the instruction sheet.I also checked my parts manual and you are right.They do not list a separate 68 rear moulding for RS or non RS .But the front one has two different part numbers for RS and non RS.

Almost all vendors list them the same way, and I don't know why. 
I actually like the look of the longer moldings on the rear, but I installed the correct shorter ones on my car (luckily I bought a nice set of NOS ones ages ago when prices were reasonable).
