heater control restoration?
« on: June 27, 2013, 02:27:54 PM »
Is it possible to disassemble an original heater control such as the one *(already disassembled)* in this ebay ad
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400518010421&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123

... and get it back together correctly with original components?    This is not mine, but my original one has some of the 'shrinkage' in the lettered black backing.   What's necessary or available to replace that black ?paper? part?   Do the control knobs just 'pull off'? and will they push back on and stay?  I'm very hesitant to disassemble my good original part unless I now it can be reassembled properly.

Yes, they can be disassembled... just take your time and be careful.
The lettering is actually in the plastic and not on the black paper. I replaced the paper on mine with black plastic,
which I cut out from an old black 3-ring paper binder that I had laying around.

The control knobs DO pull off but it may not be very easy.
I've heard that heating them up a bit with a blow dryer helps, but I haven't tried that.
Mine DID push back on and stayed... but you could always add a drop of non-hardening adhesive.

Good luck and have fun!

thanks.. :)
I'd been very hesitant to try disassembling for fear or ruining it..
so now, armed with your 'it can be done'..  I will go ahead and do it!  :)

You can polish the lens with plastic polish and they will look like new.
