if you don't want to clean/repair the starter yourself, there is bound to be a local shop that does automotive electrical repair.. Check your phone book, or google to find 'auto electric'. or automotive electrical or starter/generator repair shops. These things are very simple to rebuild... and easy to test if you have a battery .. *G*
Gary, people assume that there are shops that do this kind of work everywhere, but that isn't always the case. I've been living in this area of Delaware since 1974 and have yet to find anyone local to rebuild alternators or starters. I guarantee most just trash the old or turn it in as a core at the local Pep Boys or Autozone. Heck the last and only Speed Shop I have ever seen pulled up stakes a few years ago. He was a friend of mine I worked with in our USAF days. He says he wasn't making any money and had to move his business to his home town in Maryland. Spoke to a lot of shops, and there are plenty and I all I get is we don't rebuild them we just replace them. Not worth the trouble on something that old.
This is why I keep bringing it up here. Somebody knows a place where I can get this done, they just haven't seen my request yet to tell me where to send it. Or they just trash theirs and go buy PepBoys or Autozone. I actually bought a starter to use the parts from it to rebuild mine, but since then sold it to a friend that needed one really fast.
