early vs. late 68 Front spoiler
« on: May 30, 2013, 11:30:14 PM »
Can someone tell me the difference in "early" and "late" 68 Front spoiler?  I know that the early should have "pebble" finish, vs. smooth on the "late".  Can someone post the length of each?  I also know that the "early" was referred to as the short version, and required no brackets, vs. 3  Brackets on the later version.  Thanks!

After many years of research, we've concluded that there was only one spoiler used in 1968 production. It was textured, pointed almost 90 degrees down and didn't use any brackets. The repop is one of the few repop items that actually got it right!

HERE IT IS.

Does anyone have a picture of both spoilers installed?  I thought there were two different ones also, but if not I would like to see how both fit and look.

Here's the correct 1980 D80 spoiler.

my next question is do the correct ones bend as driving down the road?  I have seen a few cars mustangs, cuda's and others where as they are driving down the highway the front spoiler is all bent out of shape from the air hitting it. Always looked bad to me and while I want my car to be correct I don't want to look like a cheap Ford or Mopar L.O.L..

Are these for the '68 model year only, or were they used on the next model year until supply was exhaused? For example, was this spoiler used on a Nov. '68 built 1969 model, or did the '69 model have it own spoiler with the support bars at the start of the '69 model production in 1968?

I spoke to Troy (I don't have one on my car), and he said it probably moves a little but not enough that would be seen with the naked eye. He also said no, that spoiler was only used in 68 because the lower valance is a different design along the bottom lip/flange in 69. The 68 spoiler would not fit in this area due to the design change where the license plate bracket had two tabs that attach to the bottom lip of the valance instead of bolting to the front face like in 67-68.
