Correct Gas Cap
« on: August 19, 2006, 10:18:02 AM »
This may be a little thing but what is the correct gas cap for a 68 RS SS?  The one on the car now says RS and runs vertically.  Is this corect or should it be the SS gas cap?

Thanks

SS trumps the RS option so it should have an SS gas cap (if the car is originally an SS)

What size was the original motor?  Is it the 396 you list?

Mark,

The reason I ask is twofold:

You ought to take a look at this: http://home.pcmagic.net/bertfam/camaro.htm
and contact Bertfam (Ed).

Also, some suppliers advertise  SS caps that really aren't the right one for a particular year. (Like the SS 350 cap that is often advertized for 67 - 68, but then they will disclaim it as original in the fine print for 68.)  That RS cap may have been put on your car from "bad" information.  It happens all the time and sometimes from what you might think is a reliable source.

Sounds like a sweet car... post us a picture!  ;D

Phillip:

Thanks for the link and the info.  That is a great story about the possible L-89 convertible.  We all dream of a find like that.  I will post pics of the car shortly.  The ones I have of the car now are too big and I don't know how to resize them down to under 100 kb to be able to post here.  Also, although the car was a daily driver for the previous owner and is in good shape I am having some clean up and restoration work done and as with most things like this it is taking longer than anticipated.  I should have the car back before Labor Day (hopefully) and will post pics after that.  In the mean time it is an opportunity to learn patience :-\

Thanks
