1967 Camaro L30/M20

I recently bought a 67 L30/M20 Camaro. It doesn't have it's original engine or trans, but from what I can tell the rear is the original. It's a LOS car built 01D and has the 10 bolt posi in it. Code PE. I'm pretty sure it's the original rear. The car does have the traction bar support plate under the RH side of the rear seat. However, there is no bracket welded to the RH axle tube, never appears to have been one and there is no well-nut in the RH rear frame rail to secure the traction bar. I thought this strange.

I will let one of the older members chime in but to my knowledge the 10 bolt did not have the right side traction bar at least the L30 M20 that I owned that was all original did not. thanks Darrell

The one area of ambiguity is the L48/M35 model, which has sporadic radius rod application. There is no indication in the assembly manual that the traction bar was not applied to all SS-350 models, but other Chevrolet documentation indicate that it was not applied to the L48/M35 SS350/Powerglide combination. The CRG vehicle database provides insight in the actual usages. Of the approximately 100 L48/M35 cars built 012A or later for which we have rod-related data, 35% are reported with the round rod, and 5% with a rectangular (presumably) service retrofit. The remainder (60%) do not have a rod, but have one or more of the mounting brackets There is no obvious pattern of application. Even cars with optional performance axle ratios do not have the rod.

That's very interesting, thanks. So Fisher Body installs the plate, but the assembly line never actually installs the bar..Very odd, but I guess thats the way this car is. I suppose they installed the plate and if, after the car is in service and there becomes a complaint of wheelhop, the dealer could easily install the bar. Thanks for all your replies

This would be one of the last L30/M20's with 10 bolts. And 10 bolts never got a bracket.
