!969 cushion grip or rosewood steering wheel with tilt column

I'm looking at a 69 Camaro w/ the cushion grip wheel and tilt column. The wheel is an original GM but the hub has no GM P/N. I am guessing that it is a repo hub adapter. The installed hub adapter is slightly smaller in diameter than the tilt column. Also I have seen listings for the NOS #3937896 hub that states not for tilt column. I can find nothing in GM literature showing that the rosewood or cushion grip wheel is not available with the tilt column nor can I find a different hub part # for tilt column cars. Any info on tilt column diameter or hub part #s or actual diameter @ the column end of the #3937896 hub would be helpful. Thanks

The 3937896 hub was used on other Chevolet models and by other GM divisions as well (Buick, Olds, etc...) and in some of those cases it's not applicable for the tilt/telescopic steering columns. For the 1969 Camaro, it's not an issue.

Charlie had a loaded Late 69 RS/SS with Comfortgrip Steering Wheel, I bet it had tilt as well. There were two pages of window stickers...

Thanks I'll try to find some close up pix of the hub on a standard vs a tilt. The tilt column seems to be slightly larger in diameter than the hub (maybe 3/16"). I'd like to see if this is the same on a non tilt column. The tilt column is 4 1/32 diameter.

Yes, I believe the column is a bit wider because of the tilt mechanism, but both columns use the same hub.

I just measured an original 3937896 hub as follows:
Overall diameter at wheel side: 3+5/16" (or 84.5mm)
Overall diameter at column side: 4+1/8" (or 104mm)

Thanks for the info. that size is correct to the column. I've decided the existing hub is an older poor quality knock off. (less than 4" at column end)

Adaptor is between 4-3/32" and 4-1/8" diameter. The part number is cast as shown in the back side of the part - this one is off of my recently departed rosewood (still in mourning).

Are you mourning the departure of the hub adapter also or do you still have it and want to jettison it into the abyss ?

Your humor is most appreciated - helps assuage the loss of a great part.

I kept the hub and horn parts (including an NOS button) to use on a repop wheel - I couldn't see putting the absolutely perfect,  primo condition rosewood that I bought in 1982 on a car that sits in a garage all day every day - kid's college careers are more pressing.

The car assembly date is more pertinent as early cars had Walnut wheels like 68's, late cars had cushion rim wheels like 70's  and the ones which fall in between had Rosewood.

I'd disagree on the cushion rim wheel. Only two known cars had cushion rim. Mid-year cars, IIRC.
Unrelated to the wood wheel option, btw.

Why does the assem manual list the change in the 2 woodgrained wheels then another change later in the year did they change the part from Walnut to Rosewood then a different Rosewood?
The assembly manual lists the 2 changes under N34
1st change "was 3937888 wheel"
2nd change "was 3960722 wheel" "was woodgrained plastic"
2nd change was to PN 3952700 which is the comfort grip cushion rim wheel.
