Repo Radiator Tag 68 Z28
« on: August 19, 2012, 10:30:52 AM »
Has anyone started making a correct radiator tag for 68 Z28? I have my original Radiator, but somewhere in it's life the tag was removed (can still see where it was).
Still looks like they are incorrect.
Thanks,
Paul

I've made many posts on this topic trying to find someone that knows Jim at HBC.  They have this tag and its wrong.  I e-mailed, I've talked to them and even got a response from Jim.  He said I was wrong.  I invited him to check CRG's info on the radiators and he ignored it.  I implored that I was just trying to get them to make what we wanted.  Crickets.

It would seem to me that we are only dealing with one manufacture of these reproduction tags.
HBC, Ricks, Steve's, Classic Industries are all just distributors.
Jim at HBC is either unwilling or unable to contact the manufacture to report the defect. HBC may be buying these from yet another distributor and that is the issue.
Someone selling them will know the top rung and be able to either give you the name and address - most likely in China of the plant stamping these out, or contact them on the communities behalf for the correction.
I would try contacting another of the majors such as Matt's Bowties, or camaro central that are known to have passionate customer service.

I was told Jim at HBC had it made from an original off of one of his cars.  I assume he is the distributor.

Too bad they won't correct it, looks like they would have some immediate sells.

Anyone ever contact The Parts Place ? I bought a tag for my LS5 Chevelle - a very correct appearing tag; I've seen their '69 Z, L48 and BB tags, look pretty good. I don't know if they are a distributor, or possible manufacturer ?

I have spoken to both in the past and found them nothing less then helpful and knowledgeable. Matt is a member over at TC and answers posts all the time. I think his handle over there is MCB for Matt's Classic Bow-ties. Sorry but I don't have a contact name for down at Classic Headquarters but whoever answers the phone will know who you need to talk with. These folks will be able to tell you if there is one or many manufacturing vendors of these tags, and how to reach them.

Now if after all that you find out that Jim at HBC is the one and only and he refuses to correct the incorrect tag, I only see one option. Take one of the incorrect tags to a local metal shop fabricator. See how much it would cost to fabricate the correct tag and how many you would need to produce at x cost to break even to help your fellow owners out of a bad situation, or make a profit if that is your goal. Through the magic of the internet you can easily sell off the correct inventory on-line at eBay. Just MHO and what I would do if I was in your boat.
