Headlamp adjuster screw
« on: March 05, 2019, 11:55:58 PM »
I've searched through the forum and couldn't find many posts on this topic to get an answer. But I'm looking to find out what was the correct adjuster screw used for the 68 Camaro. I know the adjuster nuts were different between 67 and 68, but I've seen several variants of the adjuster screw from "original" buckets compared to the new kits. The part number for 67 was 5953005 and that was the entire assembly according to the AIM. For 68 and 69 the AIM specifies part number 3921445, but I see both the variation with just the phillips head and then the variation with the phillips head and nut head, and a larger flange. I've attached some pics to also show the differences I'm finding. So bottom line, I'd just like to know what the original adjuster screw looked like for 68, or if they changed throughout the year. My car is a 2nd week July, 1968 build date. Thanks

Shane,

Here are a couple of pics of the adjusting screw from my 01D '68. I replaced the Nylon nut and replated the original screw.

Hope this helps.

Here is a pic of a nos 67 adjuster I posted at SYC forum a while back. I don't know if this is assembly line or not.
Long story short, I purchased some repo adjusters for my 86 chevy truck and had a problem with the nuts breaking. Realized I had bought some NOS nuts for m 67 Camaro years ago.
Here is a pic w/ black vinyl nut.

Repop in white w/ longer phillips screw,

Thanks for the reference on the 67 adjuster screws. I'll now have an OEM set, thinking they were for 68, once I replace and get the correct screws installed. Thanks again for the input. Hope this helps someone else later on down the road.

Here is an update on these headlamp adjusters.

The 67 Camaro aim has this number 5953005 and looks to be same length screw as on a pair of RS capsules I own. However the nut is white. The nut has number 35 on it.

The other adjuster is a NOS bought from Year One many years ago. Same nut but (looks bigger in pic fore some reason) has number 60 on it.

The white nut on original capsule not pictured has number 11 on it.

Here is another one I have. Same nut slightly different screw. Nut has number 62 on bottom.

Hard to see the difference in picture. The screw head is actually not as thick as others.

Ok I bought 6 and in order to make 2 sets found a couple more plus I this original set I purchased from Year One many years back when they designated NOS parts with a the letter N.
I may need a brain adjuster.
