Looks more like a tribute car.

MO, looking at it again, I think you're right, no vent windows for starters.

Two things I see 'wrong': the paint looks blotchy, and the wheels appear to be Bart oval track NASCAR versions. Those would NOT be on a T/A car. Jon, do you agree?
Just another T/A fanatic. Current lifelong projects:
1968 Olds 442 W-30
1969 Mustang Fastback w a Can-Am 494 (Boss 429)

Lots of details that aren't the same.  Tribute car for sure and definitely not Trans-Am type wheels.

I don't mean to be too negative but I'd be heartbroken to know somebody altered Jon's car in such a way. Jon you did a fantastic job on your car while you had it. Fantastic car for sure.

Thanks, Nick.  Before I bought and then eventually restored my gold Z, it was a car whose history was forgotten and not cared about.  After I did it, some models got made, various articles were done, it made it into a few books, and now somebody has done kind of a clone or tribute car of it (with an obviously different number on it).  I'm glad to see the car and its history get a little more attention.

Can I respectfully ask how close this 1/18 scale diecast model got?

Yes.

Plus, did they consult with you when they were doing their design and pre-production versions?

Yes, they did consult with me and I sent them pictures of a lot of details including the lettering.  It's not too bad but the worst part of the car is the rear.  The tail light protrude too much and the rear spoiler is not at the back of the deck lid like it should be.  It's still nice enough looking and I have it on my desk at work.
