I bought the firewall pad from Tamraz because the texture looked rough like the factory pad and not smooth like so many of the rubber coated replacement pads on the market. When I received it I found the material was not rubber coated like the factory but it did have the rough textured look. The thickness of the backing was approximate to the original. I felt the search for the exact reproduction still continues.
The other day I was in Home Depot and had seen a can of rubber spray. So I figured being the Tamraz pad had the texture but lacked the rubber coat, what the heck it was worth a try.
After tacking the pad with a lint roller to remove the loose fibers and giving it 4 wet layers with a 30 minute flash between each layer to prevent solvent popping, I was surprised how it looked and felt just like the original pad though a slight heavier weight. But, being most will be concealed under the dash hardware the weight didn't matter to me. It had the texture and rubber feel that I was looking for. I will be using this pad as my replacement because it looks that close to an original until I can find the true exact reproduction pad.
