The dreaded " HOW MANY RS/SS' were made" question.
« on: July 20, 2011, 10:30:26 PM »
Ok, so its a FACT,well probably NEVER know how many TRUE rs/ss's were made, I know. BUT, over the years we've been to many shows, seen many camaros, n alot of us take time to look at the TRIM TAG (if the hood is up) to check the legitimacy. We know in 67 there was aprox. 31,000 TRUE SS's, without opening up a can of worms TOO big, what's the guestimation of how many was made each year (67-69) ? We all have that # in our head, but just for fun, let it out! I, say, 1967- 6,207 1968- 7,118 1969- 5,021. There, it had to be said, sue me lol.

What about the 3675 69 Indy Pacecars that were all RS/SS's, or the 500 to 800 Z10s.  That screws up you guestimate by 70 percent alone.  Thats why you don't mix options to try to come up with a fantasy number like that.  In 69 the Z11, and Z10 screw up a lot of option trends, they take up a full 1/5 of all all ZL2 hoods put on all cars, screw up the percentages of white cars made, etc.

Very, very true lol. Here's another thing I was thinking, correct me if u disagree, is a 67 more than likely the easiest 1st Gen to determine TRUE SS on? I know 68 is not. (not real familiar w/ the 69). I would ASSUME more ss/rs cars were built in 68 due to the fact more people were becoming more familiar with the Camaro, and realizing different options could be combined. ( There's not alot of advertisements that talk about combining the ss w/ the rs in '67 that I know of, granted, there was some) By the time 69 came around, people were very aware of the Z28, and that had to lessen the amount of some of the SS/RSs I would think, as more Z28/RSs were made. But being mostly familiar w/ the 67, in the last 10 years id say, I've seen a ton of camaros, at shows, a decent amount of SSs (of course these will be restored 1st, I would think, so that makes sence) but not very often a 3L 4P, 3L 4Y, etc. car at a local show. So anyhow, that's how I came up w/ that # for the 67s, basically just from the ratio I've seen over the years, of course there may be all these great cars out there hiding that NEVER come out, ya know. Its all fun detective work :)

I can't help you out with 67/68 but as for 69 I'd have to agree with Mark. Your 5,021 # is a little shy. If you look at just the L48 for 69 there were a total of 22,339 Z27's sold.

Add to the equation (69) there were 37,773 Rally Sports & 34,932 Super Sports and countless clones & your search will be in vain. Trust me...I've tried.

Here's a link to my vain attempt at the 69...
