1111480 distributor
« on: September 01, 2006, 04:13:32 PM »
I have a couple of questions for the board here...
1.  What is the latest date seen stamped on the 480 distributor?
2.  1112000 i was told to have been made there way into some 69Z's.   My car is a very late 69 built, 10D with the 2000 distributor.  Do we have others with the 1112000 installed we know about ?

Appreciate the info...

What's the assembly date on the '2000 distributor?

According to MacNeish's "Definitive" book, all 69 Z's got the '480's.  Of course, I've already seen components on 69's that challenge Jerry's position.

Date is 9G11, correct?

1112003 was never released for production and the production total is zero.
That said, I believe that very late Z's recieved them.

Yes, exactly - thats why was asking on the 480, what is the latest date stamp anyone has heard of....as many as i have seen, none seem to be stamped much later than august i believe.

What does the data base say - any dated in sept, oct of 69??

The info I have shows the part was removed from service in May of 1970, so I wouldn't think after that.  Hope that helps. :)

Here is a pic of my dist date code for a 16SEP1969 build date - looks like 9G2...not sure that this clears up anything but I read that Jerry M. said Aug 12 1969 was what he was seeing on Sep and Oct build dates.

9H12 is the latest date I have for the 480.  My research from customer's distributors that we've restored show that the 9H12 and 9E13 and 9E16 were used late in the year.  Oct of '69 on the 9H12.  We've also had customers who have sent in 1112003's in very late cars who claim they're original.  All distributors were produced in large batches.  Two dates known for the 003, 9G11 and 9G18.

There are no GM docs or memos stating that the 003 would replace the 480.  That is what I stated in the latest edition of my book.  GM generated a memo about usage on the 1111266 being used on the early production '68 Z28's.  Why would they not follow suit with the 003?  We've restored thousands over the years and this is the latest data that I have.
