« on: October 06, 2010, 06:19:07 AM »
I have a walnut steering wheel with alot of wear on it. And center (stainless?) is turning black or corroding slightly. How does a guy tell a orig. from a repo. Can't post pick haven't figured out how to downsize yet. And thanks everyone involved for a great site. Hope i asked this in the right forum?   Ron

I haven't noted any markings on my original rosewood steering wheel.

Great car John!  Off topic, but are those floor mats original or similar to originals?  Mainly talking about the overlap on the tunnel.

I did some research before I bought one for my '68.  I forget where.  Probably one of the CRG reports.  I also did searches on here and Team Camaro.  The few things I remember are: two piece spokes, spot welding, and the finishes.  There were no markings.

Thanks all. And thanks for the link Kurt. Final Conclusion is ... Fake... The welds are real nice but the grain is alot like the second pick, and the spokes are dark spotty like that too. However no cracks so i will probably use it. Seams real skinny to grip though. The hub is what had me going that's  orig GM.

They're original - they were molded flat, so they don't accommodate compound curves very well.

I think suppliers making claim to OER/OEM/GM need to take a close look at these...there not even close!  Again, great car!
