Tail Panel Black Out

I know the SS 396 was the only car to receive the tail panel black out, however since the 427s (if I understand correctly) were built off of 396 cars, did they have it? I think I read that the 427 COPO cars did NOT receive the black out. How close to right am I???

I believe a few of the first COPO cars were big block cars.  So, they may have had it.  But I'm pretty sure they used a SS emblem delete car after that.  Basically, the SS options w/o the emblems (and hood?).  I'm sure plenty of other members will chime in w/ the details very quickly.  Great site!  Did you do some searching first?  Tons of stuff gone over already.  That's the only reason I have a faint idea...

I have never seen a COPO with a black tail panel.

The first batch of 69 Yenkos were built off of X66 cars and do have blacked out tail panels.  Yenko then figured out how to order the cars as X11 and  X44 cars in order to save some money, and the later ones do not have blacked out tail panels.

That's right - no such thing as a factory SS427; there was no such model.

not Camaro but Chevy made an SS427 Impala. In 1968, they had a cool looking SS427 emblem on the trunk lid.

Motion Performance used this SS427 emblem on some of their shop built 427 Camaros and other cars including Corvettes

The '67 Impala SS427 had a great hood; I had one in '67-'68.

That pretty cool. A guy that use to hang out with us had a 67 ss427, he actually still does I think. Anyway I don't remember the hood being anything special, was your hood an option or had his possibly been replaced?

His must have been replaced - all '67 SS427's came with the hood in the photo above, and it had no other usage.
