right side mirror date code
« on: May 24, 2010, 02:40:19 AM »
I just picked up an NOS OEM mirror on Ebay with a date code of  6-DMI-7. The mirror is rectangular but as has a 67 date code. I thought that all of the 67 mirrors were round so what's up with a 1967 rectangular mirror?

I'm not building a correct show car so I don't really care if the date matches my car but I am curious. I bought this mirror because I don't like the quality of the aftermarket mirror that I bought a while back, it won't even adjust to a position that I can use it. Can anyone say why a rectangular mirror would have a 67 date code?

Thanks, Mike.

Right side mirrors were never available from the factory, so it's probably a dealer accessory item.

6-DMI-7 may not be 1967. It's more than likely 1977, but even if it IS 1967, June (6) 1967 would be the timeframe when Donnally would start manufacturing the 1968 model year mirrors.

The part numbers come up as 1968 part. It must be an early manufacture date like JohnZ posted above. Is there any way to tell an OEM mirror from an aftermarket mirror?

Mike, it's a correct 1968 mirror. My 1968 04A survivor's rectangular mirror is dated 12DMI7. Joe.
