1967-1969 LOS/NOR End-of-Month Monthly VIN Report
« on: February 10, 2010, 10:38:40 AM »
Hi,

I noticed that this chart does not have August in it (except Aug. 1969).  Is this due to the model year change over?  Were the Aug. cars (low number?) added to the Sept. totals?  I did see mention of the plants shutting down for two weeks in July, but...  And this applies to Fisher, too?

I've searched the forum using 08A, 08B, and 08C and come up with mainly '69 cars.  Though, there is mention of 08A & C '67s...  There may have been one '68 in there, too.   But he never showed his tag.  I used August for that search...  It also seems the 08A '69s were talking about the '68 calendar year in some threads?  Speaking of '69s, wouldn't there be 08n for both '68 and '69 calendar years?  I'm sure it's been covered before.  Sorry for the repeat.  Or maybe everyone else figured it out...  :P

Thanks!

It's how Chevy recorded the totals. Aug was included in Sept's counts.

I've read both the thread in the link above and the link in that thread to the body numbering scheme report.  There isn't anything about dates except a format explaination.

Adding Aug. cars to Sept. answers the one question.  I guess I will assume that the 08x Fisher body date existed for all years.  But what about the Aug. and Nov. '68 and '69 built cars for the '69 model year.  Did they have the same date code leaving the body number as a means to differenciate the years (plus the VIN)?

Hope I didn't just breeze over the answer in one of those place... :(

Thanks for the responses!

I had a '68 with an 08C cowl tag.  VIN was 00200.

Nope, the body # on later 69's were reset.
So the body # and build date on an Sept and Oct 68 car would be similar to an Sept and Oct 69 car. But the tags themselves changed to the larger format, so they wouldn't look the same.

Very cool stuff (to me)!  Thanks!  Learnin' every day...

This all came up when I was checking the numbers for a '68 my friend was interested in.  The "numbers matching" dates didn't match up.  But I think the dealer, yes dealer, misread the tag date as 08 instead of 03...  I went to match up the VIN in the CRG table and ??? :P  It did line up with the 03 VINs though.
