dip stick broke off inside motor
« on: November 04, 2009, 08:18:55 PM »
The lower portion of the dip stick broke off inside the engine @ the full mark. Could this get inside the motor & cause damage or should I assume that it is laying in the bottom of the pan and not worry about it? Looking foe suggestions.

I don't know, but it would worry me. Can you pull it out the drain plug hole with a magnetic or other tool?

That will be my next step with a magnet on a flexible tube. My last resort will be to drop the pan if the magnet doesn't work I guess.

If it was my engine I'm sure it would end up between a rod and the crank and ruin everything.  I would make sure I got it out. I would not be able to sleep knowing it was in there.

If you get a few different magnets and do some fishing around you should get it out with no problem. Goodluck.
