67-68 Brake Line Clip attachment

What Method or Tool is used to properly secure NEW 1967-1968 Brake line (also 3/8" Fuel Line) Clip asm Part Number 3881339 to the Body or subframe.

The new clip is in the AMK book Page 150 Part Number B-10317, Red, double ended clip w/ 0.27" rivet.

The ASM manual (68) shows a detail of the clip with a "PUSH RIVET". page 123.

The new clips from AMK & Others appear to have the rivet as part of the clip. I am not sure how folks have been Clinching or Bucking this tight to the car structure?

In the plant, we used an air hammer with a mandrel in it - once the clip was positioned, with the "bullet" in the hole in the frame, we zapped it with the air hammer to expand the "bullet" in the hole. You can do the same with a blunt punch or a scratch awl.

Is the correct finish RED for these clips?

I ended up ordering a 'Kit' from one of the vendors and they were in fact RED. I used a sears blunt punch to "SET" the intergrated rivet into the body hole. One hit with the ball peen and the clip was go to go in the body. One clip popped out when wrestling the line into the hoop, I just re-set the rivet again with a healthy blow of the hammer. My orig clips were heavy coated with undercoating and one w/ the rivet rusted off. After cleaning they did show orig red coloring. I do not think I kept the carcasses to pic for you. I do remember that a call to AMK was done and they claimed they were discontinued so I searched for other sources and found them from Ricks, Classic or Inline tube??? one of them had em.

Thanks Jim.  Have the clips, just wanted to be sure of the color before I put them on.  Judging sheet from last year said "clips should not be painted" but I left the originals on the frame when blasted/painted so I guess they meant painted black.

Ok, so I pulled the clips off the car today, soft cleaned, solvent cleaned, razor scratched-all different orders on different clips and no signs of red anywhere.  The 2 on the rear inner frame rail for fuel line were in the best shape and looked like they were black phosphate or zinc.  The only one that MAYBE showed a tiny hint of red was the one under the drivers floor for the parking brake cable, but that's a big maybe-could have been rust.  Also the 2 on the pass outer frame rail for the fuel line are a slightly different style then the rest.  Can anyone else let me know what they found???  Or anyone with a super original car let me know???  Don't want to do this twice, and the "not painted" keeps repeating in my head now!

Brake line clips are red from tip-stern.  However the fuel line clips are different.  They are bare metal.  Might of had coating originaly, but still metal in color.
