1967 BB?
« on: January 09, 2011, 11:06:10 PM »
Trying to find out if this is a legit '67 BB. I can't make heads or tails on the engine stamp and was hoping someone could help.

The Cowl tag reads; M20 and/or M21 4-Speed Floor Shift, D55 Console Front Compt, Standard Bucket Seats-no Headrests, Standard Interior, Black Exterior, Red Interior, Tinted all Glass, Built 2ND Wk of Dec.  {M20 and/or M21=350HP & 375HP...is this correct?}...Please let me know if I missed anything.

The VIN= 124377N152541 (67 Norwood, V8 Coupe)

Thanks for the help.

Hard to tell from the picture, but appears to be T0204EM, which is a 1966 Chevelle (or El Camino) 396/325 with Powerglide and A.I.R.

6Z129002 is the VIN from a 1966 Chevelle (or El Camino) assembled at the Fremont, CA plant.

The trim tag doesn't show this car to be a big block or even an SS350 (No group 4 code).

E =Tinted glass (all)
2L = M20 (or M21) floor shift
2G = Console

Ed,

I PMed Jerry before looking at this car & he mentioned the "4" code which you have also pointed out. Here's what's confussing... the cowl lists the car as having "2L" which is either the M20 or M21. According to CRG's RPO, the M20 requires the Z28 or the L78. The M21 Requires the, Z28, the L34 & the L78. The L34=350HP & the L78=375HP.

I'm probably reading this wrong so can you shed some light?

Thanks

M20 indicates a "4 speed manual transmission", not necessarily the Muncie. The Saginaw 4 speed was also coded M20. You can read more HERE.

I see what you mean Ed...makes a lot more sense now... "M20", Generic term for less performance models...

Thanks for being diplomatic! ;) Have to admit though...great color combo...if it still had it.

Should have realized something was up with the strange paint...check out the cool flames man... :-\

you could get a 327 with the 4 speed and no group 4 code on trim tag.

SS would be a 4P code for 350, 4N for 396/325HP 4K for 396/375HP. 12437 = sport coupe with V8, no 4 group on tag. Car got standard v8 327 2LG four speed with console
67Z/28,67RSZ/28,71SS454CHEVELLE.

Thanks again Ron. I have put together a decode of the car to send to the owner. I hope he tries to piece it back as close to original as possible. I think its a great car and the color combo is hard to beat. Seems these "plain" 1st gens are becoming more rare then the quote..."rare" cars. :)
