mono leafs or multis
« on: November 13, 2008, 07:36:13 PM »
i have a 1st week of january built 68 rs ss 350 auto car with a 12 bolt with mono leafs and staggerd shocks.i think the rearend is original because of the casting date  and axle code.but all of the restoration books say that all 68 ss cars had 12 bolts with multi leafs.so should i replace the monos with multi or just get new mono leafs?

All 68 12 bolt axles were multi leaf. If you have a mono leaf axle (and the spring perches are set up for mono leaf), then it's not the original axle and probably one from a 67 Camaro. If your spring perches are set up for multi leaf springs, then someone has changed out the springs.

You can tell the difference between mono leaf perches and multi leaf purches by the depth. Mono are about 1 - 1.5 inches in depth and multi are around 2.5 - 3 inches in depth.
