Dash firewall pad
« on: October 31, 2008, 01:18:00 AM »
Anyone had any luck in finding an original type firewall pad?  I got one that is kind of cheap, like foam rubber and I looked at some others that had kind of a rubber texture to them.  The problem with all the ones I looked at was, the cutout for the fuse box was backwards from my original pad.  Has anyone else seen this?  I know that the repro parts have some problems, but do they have to be backwards?  Or like the radiator tag that I posted that has the wrong tank code on it?  Jeez.

Well, I just hoped someone else might have run into this.  I would like to get something that looks original if possible.  Anyone else run into the cutout for the fuse box being backwards on the repros?

hi,

I replaced mine a couple years ago, cut out for the fuse box was incorrect. The original is best if it's not too damaged. I rescued my car from oblivion, so my pad was too far gone.

NPD carries a higher-quality pad, guessing other vendors may have it as well.

I got one from Rick's, the cutout was OK. I sprayed it with urethane undercoat on the back side (side that faces interior to make it look more "original"

Good luck

I thought about doing the same exact thing to mine-and should have!  Comparing to original when I had it out it looked as if the original was just jute with a bath of tar type material poured over it.
