Engine Type of 67 Camaro
« on: August 22, 2008, 05:22:33 PM »
Hi there,

i'm going to buy a 1967 Camaro RS coupe.
I know that the engine has been changed and was now wondering which engine would be there correct one.

I provided the cowl tag to take a look.
It has now code for a engine type, so it should be the LF7 with the 327/210hp.

But, this is an export car, it was driven in chile 20 years ago.
Is it possible that this car was equipped with the 283ci/195HP export V8 ?

The dealer here in Germany has this engine in his warehouse, too.
If this would be a possbile original engine i think it would be great to buy it for the car.

Thanks for your help!

Can't speak for an export, but no domestic Camaro ever had a production 283. Good luck!

What is the stamp on the front pad on the engine block from the motor in his warehouse?

And when you negotiate the price of the car, point out the cowl tag has been removed and put back on with a screw and a bolt...
That makes its originality hard to verify and reduces the value of the car.

The 283 was only for Swiss cars.
It would have had either 327 - LF7 or L30.
