SBC rocker arms with "O" and V markings
« on: July 31, 2008, 06:52:06 PM »
Going through my stuff and I happened upon 16 rocker arms with the "O", and,  in the same box, I found 15 rockers of an olive hue with a larger than normal  "V" with a larger than normal  horizontal bar than is usually found on rocker arms of 67 - 69 vintage.  Also found another with a "V" lying straight down on one of its points instead of the usual vertical "V".  I know what the "O" types are, and, so far I have found 32 of them, but, what are the other ones e.g. the larger and thicker V and the the thicker than normal bar units...  Is there someone who re-conditions these  "O" rocker arms?

Looking a mite closer at the "V" type rockers and there appears to be 3 distinct /different
inverted "V"s (triangles) and one of the "O" rockers has a much smaller "O" than the rest..

The "V" rockers are standard, and the "O" rockers are heavy-duty (heat-treated differently); the variations in the characters are from different dies.

Are rocker arms reusable once they have been run?

Thanks John, I have the original set from my 69 Z that were replaced with new Competition Cams roller type at rebuild. Sitting on the shelf. Probably didn't need new. They'll stay with the car as all used parts that I have which are original to the car do.

O rockers are very strong and many of us running the 302 in NHRA's Stock Eliminator use them with 99.9 percent success rate.  We shift at 8200-8300rpm.  Maybe break one a season and that's about it but they are the best for HP applications.  They sometimes out live the roller rockers that many people use in bracket racing.  Hard to beat them!  The Manley 43140 set is a good back up too.  We use these alot in the 302 rebuilds that I do in the shop here at CHP.

Good morning Jerry!!!  Funny how we (I) let things hang around for years without really knowing what things are until we get on a Board such as this and all of a sudden it hits me.  I was going to ditch the rockers as they have been sitting doing nothing but collecting dust on a 14G wire.   Something either JohnZ or Kurt had written to one of my queries finally woke me the heck up...   When I get my act together  ($$$) finally, I will want to have these re-condittioned and am a comin' your way alongwith my  #472 intake...  Good Luck in your Racing!!!  Thanks!!!  Ted
