Anything on this VIN and Engine Code Question
« on: February 04, 2006, 03:30:25 AM »
My 68 coupe has this VIN: 124378N363264.  Is it in CRG data base?
Also, I am not sure the motor is original.
The partial VIN on the motor is almost illegible.  I can make out an F and a couple of #s but not enough to make it out.
The engine code is clear: V0614HN (The 1 looks more like an "I".)  If I read this right, then it is a Flint, Michigan, June 14, 327-250hp.  Is that right?
The cowl tag gives a 4th week of December build date.  Would that enigine code be close enough for the build date?
Help CRG ??? ??? ???

VIN isn't in the database.  Not sure what the casting year is, but not a good date match regardless.  HN isn't a first-gen Camaro code. However, if you want a driver motor, don't worry about the date or code.  (The 1 that looks like an I is an I that was substituted in place of a 1.)

Thanks Rich!
A good driver motor is exactly what I want.  I did not think this was a Camaro motor.  I'll check the casting date.
What should I do to get the car in the data base?
Love this site.  You guys are a lot of help! ;D ;D ;D

The "HN" suffix was only used twice - once in '65 for the Corvette 327/375 fuelie, and once in '69 for a 350/300hp automatic (TH350) in Impala/Caprice. If the partial VIN has an "F" in it, that leans toward the latter application - what's the block casting number and casting date?

I did find this info. on the web about another HN application: HN  1968  327  250hp  4 carb.  Pwrglide, reg gas. (Not sure how reliable that is?!?)  It is a 327 and has powerglide. I had been following that lead, but now you have me wondering...
I'm going to check on casting date and number.  (I just finally figured out where it is from CRG info.)  The car is stored right now about 60 miles from where I live, so that will take me several days. (Gotta work to pay for these things.)
I'm beginning to think this is a real "piecemeal" job, but everything works well, and like Rich said, it is a good driver motor.
I really appreciate the help!
