Heater Delete\Radio Delete
« on: February 11, 2008, 03:16:07 PM »
I know they used a plate for the radio delete that was in the dash but what did they do for the heater delete in the dash, like the control hole and the vents and what would be the best thing to use to cover them up?

See the Assembly Manual, Section C48, Sheet A2, view "A" and "B" - shows the heater control opening cover and the black cardboard covers taped over the defroster duct openings from under the dash.

John I hate to sound stupid, but I couldn't find that in the manual in fact mine dont show a section C. I did find where they taped cardboard over the defrost holes but nothing on the controls and the dash vents. Im using the Factory Assembly Manual (Reprint). If you dont mind let me know what im doing wrong, if i am.

The alpha-coded options are in the second half of the manual, after UPC 14; the option section starts with A31, ends with ZL2 (last page in the manual).

Thanks John , I see that they used a cover for the control hole but what about the side vents in the dash? did they leave in the directional vents or coverup the holes? and what would you suggest to use to cover them up to look somewhat factory?   And can you still find the control cover?  Again thanks for the info.

The side vents in the dash ("Astro-Ventilation") had nothing to do with whether the car had a heater or not - they were on every non-A/C car, and admitted outside air from the plenum below the cowl vent grille, controlled by the upper of the two vent pull knobs on the kickpads. On A/C cars, they were part of the cold air distribution system; all cars had the outlets in the ends of the dash.

I'd think that the dummy cover for the heater control opening would be almost impossible to find, as only cars shipped overseas or to Hawaii could legally be built with the C48 less-heater option; federal MVSS regulations applicable to domestically-delivered cars required a defroster, which required a heater.

Someone has repoped a heater control cover and put it on Ebay. As far as the side vents that was what I was going to do. Thanks a Million.
