Original part number deluxe door panels 1968
« on: January 26, 2008, 04:00:45 PM »
Would anyone know what the original GM part number was for a replacement front deluxe interior door panel in black (both driver and passenger side) for '68?

My panels are stored in a spare room so I took a quick look for you. On the backs are the numbers 7743385 for the driver's door panel, 7743384 for the pass. door panel, 7756084 for the driver's rear panel and it looks like 7756083 for the pass. rear panel (that one is hard to read). They look like GM part numbers, but I'm not sure. Hope this helps, RonM.

Do you want the original part # (which I assume is what RonM gave you) or the GM replacement part #?  They may be different...

Thx RonM. Regarding lakeholme's point that the replacement part # may be different than the original #, I would definitely like the "new GM replacement" part number if anyone has that. I am searching for either a very good pair of original panels or NOS panels which as lakeholme states may have a different part #. I have been searching for NOS panels for several years and have not had any luck and thought the part number may help in online searching. I am wondering if GM ever even offered new replacement interior door panels.....?

Both the 68 and the 72 P&A list

14.685 TRIM ASSY... Front Door Trim (less arm rest)
68 Camaro ......................... right (comb. 414, 715, 749) ........................7772024
68 Camaro ......................... left (comb. 414, 715, 749) ......................... 7772025

I THINK that's what you are looking for... But it would be great to have Bertfam (Ed) confirm it.  I'm new to the P&A and they have a "logic" that is "veiled" to most of us....

The part numbers RonM posted are for the "completed assembly" (including the trim, carpet, handle, etc...), that Fisher body used. The part numbers Phil posted are for the bare door panels. You won't be able to get the completed assembly anymore (and I really doubt you'll find the bare panels anymore), but Phil's part numbers are what you should be looking for. As of 1971, they were still available for $58.10 each. Sometime between 1971 and 1976, the passengers side was discontinued, but the drivers side was still available at a price of $89.25. Then sometime between 1976 and 1980, the drivers side was discontinued.

Thanks all for the help. Just wanted to say this is a great forum and web site, not sure why it took me so long to find it. Also, funny how us Butternut Yellow fans find each other and with the same name even - "lakeholme" - (Phil) - (My name is Phil and my baby is also a 68 Butternut Yellow SS, albeit not quite as stock as yours)...
Regards,
Phil

Hey, Phil, post some pictures.
And things aren't always as they appear.  I'm working my car back to stock from a "bad cloning" by a previous owner.
