69 rsz28 master cylinder
« on: September 30, 2007, 10:11:18 PM »
Is it possible for a 69 rs z or a 69 z28 to have any other master cylinder than the 309. The 309 is short and fat where other ones that i have seen claim to be real z's have the tall and skinny ones, could somebody please help me figure this out.  thanks frank.

Frank,

Early 69 disk brake cars got the 68 346 master cylinder, but only for about a month. All disk brake cars after that got the 309 ("US") master cylinder. The one you describe sounds like the standard aftermarket replacement.

HERE'S A LINK for you regarding the brakes.

i just want to look into everything before i buy. the car is a early rs z28, that sat for 31 years, has original #'s matching block. it has the narrow spoiler on trunk that was finished up from  68. for as long as this car sat i do believe it to be real, it has bracket on rear frame rail etc. etc. would you worry cause it don't have the original radiator and master cylinder?? thanks

I would worry about any car without first getting clear up-close pictures of all the numbered parts and posting them here. There are just too many fakes out there.

The radiator isn't the correct one for a Z, so that right there is a red flag. Sure, it could have been replaced over the years, but again, post all the numbers here with good clear pictures and we can tell you exactly what you're getting into.

Well maybe.  I know of a N511xxx VIN with a 309 and an N521xxx VIN with a 'US' 346.

i can be certain that this is a real RSz. it's a 2 owner car and the 2nd owner bought it in 71, drove til 76 and parked til now. i have talked to him personally cause i'm in process of buying. the original #'s matching block comes with car, hugger orange w/black stripes and top, it has a replacement 307,283 in it now, maybe thats why the radiator and master cylinder are different, theres so many questions i hate to keep calling him, he's very different. i have alot of pics and would like to post them but the car's not mine, when the deal is final i will post them, thanks for all the help! (i think the car is a rare find).
