Cowl tag rivet sealer
« on: July 26, 2007, 09:29:13 PM »
I was wondering about some of the variations I've seen on cowl tag rivets. I've seen some hollow and some that ooze while others are smooth and clean. I'm sure that many were cleaned up over the years during restorations and such. I noticed on my Z11 that it looks like a brush was used to wipe away the excess. I guess it depended on what the Fisher employee was feeling like doing that particular day and how detail oriented he/she was?

The photo below is a '63 Corvette having its windshield glass sealed to the weatherstrip, but it shows a typical sealer flow nozzle that was used on the sealer deck at Van Nuys and Norwood for applying body seam sealer. The sealer was applied to the joint with the gun, and was then brushed or dressed with a nylon tool. In the case of the cowl tag, the operator probably just put a blob in the hole in each rivet, and didn't do anything else unless an excess was applied, in which case it was dressed.
