My thoughts are they were Galv. based on low mile and hidden crevice non exposed portions observed. The color, grain and mottled look convinced me.
What does the Judging manual(s) specify & Jerrys Books recommend as coating ??
The interesting question has been were they flat Sheet metal galv prior to stamping or dip galvanized after pressing. I believe that the GM spec was for Galv (vice Electro Plating) since it has a better long term rust performance than zinc or cad plating based on the duty of a disc brake rotor splash (water) protection.
I have found platers Hostile to hobbyists, and never even found one avail to perform Low volume (Hot or Cold) Galvanized Auto Parts, so I have settled on Brite Clear Zinc as my only option.

IIRC, Jerrys book states the dust shields were silver dichromate plated, and the caliper mounts were gold dichromate plated. Steering knuckles, spindles, and tie rod ends were bare cast iron.
