HELP - Can you find your old car with a VIN search anywhere?
« on: October 07, 2024, 11:27:01 AM »
My father bought a 1969 Z11 Camaro Pace Car  replica back in the day, of the limited 1 per dealership type models.  He has his original Bill of Sale with the VIN. We are trying to find out if the car is still out there.  Is there a database out there where you can find the history for the vehicle?  We tried some of those "sponsored" sites & it yielded a zero history.  Any hlep Or guidance would be gratly appreciated.

VIN 124679N617475

The sites out there are designed for the later style 17-character VIN.

You could start by requesting a DMV registration search in the state the car was sold in. The state may not comply or redact names from the docs. If the car has not been registered for some time, it drops off current records. Generally speaking, DMV records are only maintained for 10 years. Another issue, not unusual for people who buy collector cars to not title or register them. The current owner of record may have sold it years ago.

Back in the day, salvage businesses were not required to report scrapped VINs as they are now.

If you have a contact with NCIC access they could run it for you. Law enforcement can and did do that way back when, those days are long over.

I have been watching online and auctions for over 10 years; the CRG has a db of 1st Gen Camaro VIN info. That VIN is not in any of the records I have.

Learning more and more about less and less...

There is a Pace Car Registry for the 69s. What's the VIN?

I know many many people who are trying to do this. Don't get your hopes up. Having the VIN will help, but consider this.

I have been looking for my dad’s old car since the 1980s. Haven’t found it.

I was looking for one of my old cars. I found it, but the current owner won’t sell. I tried to explain the sentimental value of this car that I drove in high school, college and for 2 years after college. It just sits in a machine shed gathering dust.

Still Thank God & Bill (Joking) for the internet.

Kellygrl73 consider sharing the "document" with the Core crg. leaders for data use they will keep it private but supports research. Maybe I am out to lunch on this just a suggestion. These fellas comb the net for numbers, keep the faith yours will surface.
