1969 Cowl Hood Spring
« on: June 13, 2024, 07:05:14 PM »
Hello,  I read through the CRG Under hood Components for the correct Cowl Hood Spring.  The chart says 8 3/4  , 26 coils.  Part number.  GM - 3877203.  Spring fits standard and cowl hoods.  I have ordered a couple sets.  The first set was OER.  The spring measures 7 1/2. and 26 coils.  The next set i ordered measured 8  3/8 and 23 coils.  Non of the measurements were available until i received the springs.  Of course they are all incorrect.  The next company told me that only the Standard hood received the 8 3/4 spring.  They even list it on there description.  (  1967 - 1969 Camaro Hood Hinge Spring, Standard, Each, 409025

High quality correct spring rate for use with the flat steel hoods. Sold individually, 2 required per vehicle. This fits all 67, 68 and 69 Camaros, but will various GM models with standard hoods. (Not for SS or cowl induction hood) Replaces GM part number 3877203.)

So is the correct hood spring "GM - 3877203" for Standard and Cowl?  Better yet is 26 coils and 8 - 3/4 correct.

I figured these springs would be easy to find.

GMPD listed only two springs for a steel hood.

#3848272 for the SS hood.
#3877203 for standard and ducted hood.

Back in the day, I swapped out two standard hoods for a ducted hood on my Z/28s. Never touched the hood springs.

Learning more and more about less and less...

ok,  Thanks,  I figured the chart at CRG was correct.  Its sometimes hard to explain that to these companies.

The company I bought the OER springs from even opened up another set and they were 7 1/2.  They must have all been labeled wrong at OER.

Found a pair of NOS but I can't seem to part with $650

Just received a reply back from Heartbeat City.  They said 7 1/2 is correct for Cowl hood and Standard.  Told me they would refund my money.

Ugh

Filed a complaint with OER.  Just got a message from OER and they sampled there springs and the wrong part numbers were on the packaging.

Cowl induction or flat hood springs are easily obtained. I had a surplus and sold some to my hinge restorer. I still have some I think. SS springs can be purchased new. In fact, he supplies SS springs when he rebuilds hinges but I did not need them so I sent them back.
