I am not trying to figure out why they were offset or inline, I am only trying to find out what is the correct driveshaft for a 396 4 speed 69 Camaro. I emailed Jerry M but he is in Scottsdale for 2 more weeks. He said he would reach out to me when he returns.
The LEGENDS book on pg 59 says all BB cars came with inline driveshafts weather it is a 4 speed or Auto 400. The colors according to LEGENDS do not match the CRG driveshaft chart either. I feel that the CRG offers more detailed info than 1 sentance on pg 59 from the Legends book.
Does anyone have proof in regards to offset vs inline?? Or is the section in the CRG under driveshafts all there is to offer?
If so what would you do, follow the CRG or listen to the LEGENDS book? I am stumped.

 I wonder what Pontiac did? I saved a 1969 shaft from a 400/400 Firebird and I don’t believe it is offset. I always thought it had something to do with the pinion angle under load,but not certain it would have ever “fixed”  the issue and that is probably why we saw the factory traction bar. It seems any F-body with a big block or a four speed always suffered the can opener effect under the rear seat after the leafs got a little weak. The slapper bars were almost a necessity if you put on drag tires.

That's simple - you need the same driveshaft that was used on half of the 69 Camaros, part # 3945540. I know because I confirmed via broadcast codes. The Legends manual is incorrect.
I've looked at the original drawing for the 3945540 (and lots of other driveshafts too) - that is where the 32* comes from.

The Data CRG provides is based on submitted observations of documented original cars. If a book says one thing and 50 bb Camaro owners say something else, then, it stands to reason that the observed field data is representative of what is correct. That is why that Driveshaft report is so long based on submitted data. 📈data am one of those that submitted my information from my own 69 bb car. If the report says it is “clocked”, you can take it to the bank because the info is based on factual observed original cars in the field. Rely on CRG info. That’s why the word “research” is in title
