A 1969 Camaro RS/SS Z11 convertible was used as the pace car for the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Nationals held at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) in Alton, Virginia September 27-28, 1969.  As a result of the multiple different classes of racecars at an event like this, the Camaro would have paced seven different races on Sunday, September 28, 1969.

Here you can see the Camaro on the pace lap in front of the field of Formula Vee racecars prior to the start of the 15 lap race #3.  Perhaps it is an optical illusion due to the extreme body roll, but to me it looks like the "SS" emblem in the grill is not mounted straight.

Here you can see the Camaro out in front of the Formula ABC and Formula Ford group on the pace lap for race #4.  This 15 lap event was described in the schedule as the "Feature Race."

The schedule of events for Friday, September 26, 1969 lists "Tamson's Chevrolet" in Danville, Virginia as the registration and inspection site for the racecars and drivers.  This is probably also the dealer that supplied the 1969 Camaro RS/SS Z11 convertible to the track for use as a pace car.

Interestingly, the #18 1969 Camaro ZL1 was sold new by Tamson Chevrolet on July 15, 1969.
