Muncie shifter on the saginaw

Well i have started to restore my L30M20,
I have remove the 327 and the saginaw.
I have notice that my shifter have a problem don't understand.
On the exploded view the boot 9 is out of order.

I have reintall some balls 15 that where lost, but the systeme stay in one position, i don't see if a spring is missing?

Can you upload photos of what you are dealing with as I am not following what you are asking.

Hey DW,

Think I know what Phillip is asking. Look at the collar (9) and the ball bearings (15). I vaguely remember a spring in the assembly, but I don’t have one to look at. If the pic is too large from my phone, I’ll text it.

I have rebuilt 3 each First design versions.
PC #9 Is the Erie Penn. Cap Plugs, Plastic cap.
The detent has a spring like action by virtue of the slope of the pin, ball bearings, shell retainers and RTV encapsulation all contained by the Plastic orange-red cap.
Big Pain to get fixed, & understanding why the second design was introduced.

Yes that’s this part.......so no spring ....
I have restored the red boot 9 , but i will add some o-ring to maintain the ’’springs’’12’ that maintain the balls
